As a relatively new Maple user I've ran into the message that the linalg package is superceded by the LinearAlgebra Package many times in the help pages.
However, after using many older titles that used relatively older versions of Maple to demonstrate applications, I've sometimes found many of the linalg packages very intuitive and user friendly in cases where the LinearAlgebra operation may have created a little confusion.
This blog entry is just my plea to Maplesoft to keep the linalg package.
I'm a little frightened that the act of superceding the linalg package is one of a few steps to eventually get rid the linalg package.
I know this should be posted in one of the help forums, but I would like to get some assistance as soon as possible.
Can someone help me with the Dagger command in the Physics package ?
I can't seem to get it to work for matrices.
thanks,

PARI/GP is a widely used computer algebra system designed for fast computations in number theory (factorizations, algebraic number theory, elliptic curves...), but also contains a large number of other useful functions to compute with mathematical entities such as matrices, polynomials, power series, algebraic numbers etc., and a lot of transcendental functions. PARI is also available as a C library to allow for faster computations.
Originally developed by Henri Cohen and his co-workers (Université Bordeaux I, France), PARI is now under the GPL and maintained by Karim Belabas with the help of many volunteer contributors.
I came across this interesting piece of reading, and thought I'd share it.
It's an online version of the title, "The Mathematics of Gambling", by Dr. Edward Thorp.
Although after browsing the web it was implied that Dr. Thorp was world renowned, I honestly knew nothing of him.
You may also look him up on Wikipedia to find a link to this publication.
Maybe some of you may find ways of applying Maple to some of the content in this book.
I just went through another chapter of Klima's title, "Applications of Abstract Algebra with MAPLE".
Specifically the section on algebraic cryptography, if anyone is familiar with this title.
I went through the example of the Hill Cryptosystem, and used again with another plaintext example of my own, and thought I'd also share this.
I was wondering if anyone would know how to automate the code in this worksheet with or without maplets ?

This was discovered in 1999, but I thought I might share it since Maple was involved.
I think it was the largest composite fermat number discovered until that period.
I went through a chapter of the title, "Applications of Abstract Algebra With MAPLE", by Richard E. Klima, et al, and worked through the example of a Reed-Solomon Error Correcting Code.
I thought I would share this.

Has anyone here ever been involved with Cambridge's mathematical tripos exams in any way ?
For example as an examiner, test taker or coach ?
I've always heard of this exam with respect to biographies of famous mathematicians, and to me it's surrounded by a lot of lore and mystery.
Does any of the colleges of Cambridge also have the actual tests of many of these famous people archived, dating back from the 17th or 18th century ?
v/r,
I'm preparing for the GRE and would like to know if anyone thinks Maple can help ?
Has anyone here ever used Maple to prepare for the quantitative section of the GRE ?
Is there an application related to the GRE in the maple application center on the maplesoft site ?
