Maplesoft has just announced that a Windows Vista version of Maple 11 is now available.

If you already own Maple 11, you may download the update for Vista at www.maplesoft.com/vista

If you do not yet own Maple 11, you can either purchase a Boxed copy of download version of Maple 11 for Vista. The Vista version is available for download immediately, and boxed copies will contain the Windows Vista version of Maple at the end of the month.

Will Vista Version Run On XP

Will the new Vista version of Maple run on Windows XP?

New Platform

The Windows Vista version of Maple is not intended to run on Windows XP. Windows Vista is being treated as a different platform, so Maplesoft will be offering both a Windows XP and a Windows Vista version of Maple.

Maple for Vista does not work for me

for some unknown reason. I purchased Maple 11, downloaded it to my Vista machine and worked fine. Then, uninstalled it and downloaded the Vista Version, installed it and now does not launch at all. Not even the uninstall command works so I can't revert back the my original download version. I've done all the tricks possible (like rebooting several times, launching it from the command prompt, uninstalling from command prompt, etc), but none seemed to work. Can Maplessoft tell me what is going on? If the thing wasn't ready for Vista then Maplesoft should've waited until they were sure they had a reliable product. I love Maple, but as you can tell I'm very frustrated with a seemingly simple task which I'm not able to do. I would appreciate if Maplesoft does not advertise availability and support for Vista if it's not capable to deliver on its promise. Remember that customer is king, and if you try to upset the customer that spells disaster for your bottom line.

I work for a high-technology company with more than 70,000 employees worldwide where more than 60% are engineers. Just at the division where I work about 11,000 employees work, 6000 of whom are engineers. MATLAB is a company standard, but I was willing to evangelize co-workers and the engineering internal community because I believe in Maple being a superior product, but after this I have reservations to follow through.

update to my own post

Maple 11 for Vista seems to work if used in Classic and Command-line worksheet mode. However, on the full blown version, the maple calculator, and that new reader people are talking about does not work (as in not launching or uninstalling at all). I shouldn't be wasting my time in trying to make maple work. I should be spending my time in what the tool was meant to be used for, solving math and engineering problems. sorry for the rant but this lack of progress on making this work for me is making me nuts.

Correction

Actually there is only one installer for all Windows versions. Both the XP and Vista versions appear in the same file.

Is this a point release ?

Is this a point release with bugfixes in the library or is it strictly a Vista compatibility update ?

point release

It's both, BUT the version on the Vista page is only for use on Windows Vista. We are currently in final testing of the update installers for the other platforms. Once those are ready (soon), we will post the updates along with information about what has changed.
