New Option, remove new Editor

Will's picture

I have just completed a new update to the site that allows me to disable the new WYSYWIG editor for specific users. Users cannot make this change themselves at the moment, an administrator must make the change for them.

If you would like the editor disabled, please use the contact form to send me a message.

This is the reason that the site had several problems this afternoon, please let me know if you see anything else that is acting incorrectly.

done, but not done

I followed the directions in Will's post, and he replied that he had reset my account so I would not be using the editor. All was fine, or so I thought.

So, why am I seeing the editor as I type this?

To make matters more interesting, when preparing my previous post I was sometimes using the editor and sometimes not. After previewing, most of the time the editor was present but a few times it was not.

It sounds as though something is slightly unstable.

Looking forward to having this resolved.

Doug

After previewing this post, it was completely corrupted. My carefully entered HTML source code was interspersed with copies of the above hyperlink. Strange! And, frustrating!!

The same here

I have experienced the same thing. At this very moment of writing I am looking at the new editor even though for a short period of time (yesterday, I believe) I had an editor with no buttons whatsoever.

That being said, I am certainly not enthusiastic about such an editor with no buttons at all: I assumed that turning off the new editor meant turning on the old editor where there were useful buttons for bold, italic, and code.

It's back, again.

Yesterday I, once again, had the old editor. Today, the new one is back.

Very frustrating.

Please reset this, again.

Problems and buttons

It looks like the option to remove the editor is not being remembered, and it is being re-added when you log into your account again. I'll look into this.

It isn't possible to re-enable the buttons from the old version of the site, they don't work with the latest version of Drupal. If you wish to disable the WYSYWIG editor, you'll have to enter all of your html yourself.

No return to old editor

So basically what you are saying is that the update of mapleprimes has made the only two now available editors less suitable for editing posts than was the old editor. That is actually quite depressing.

latest version of Drupal?

Do you mean 6.0? Any hope of improvement?

Will's picture

Drupal 6

Primes currently runs Drupal 5.72, Drupal 6 was just released today, so I won't be updating to that any time soon.

Drupal does not have any WYSYWIG editor built in, so the editor would not be changed in Drupal 6.

My question is

whether in Drupal 6 or later I will be able to have the older editor with the older buttons. For me, with the quirks it had, the previous situation was better than the current one.

I agree

Compare my posts The same here and No return to old editor above.

We tried putting this on a

We tried putting this on a petition site blog but couldn't get it to work. The owner ended up going elsewhere to get it coded and did find a working method eventually.
