Any ideas, guys?

I have currently a Maple session running with only one open worksheet.

The worksheet only contains an input line with the name "a" and an output line with the name "a".

The fan of my laptop is running full throttle and the task manager displays 10% CPU usage and a very high power usage (3 mserver.exe running, the process with the cpu load is javaw.exe. Suspending this process shuts down the fan).

After about an hour I decided to ask. While typing this post (in Firefox, probably unrelated) the CPU usage went down and the fan went quite. The total system CPU usage is now down to 2%.

Has anybody seen the same? What could have cause it? It's not the first time I observe this. Anything that I could check before restarting Maple? All on Windows 10 after system restart.

Update:

The thread that consumes cpu is called ucrtbase.dll!configthreadlocate

Starting Maplesim in parallel almost immediately turns off the fan while the displayed cpu load is still high but now variing.

Hello,

I noticed that the Linearly Implicit Euler method (also known as the Semi-Implicit Euler method) is not available in Maple's built-in ODE solvers. This method is useful for stiff ODEs, where part of the function is treated implicitly (for the linear term) and part is treated explicitly (for the non-linear term).

I know that the Linearly Implicit Euler method is a specialized method that probably does not find enough widespread use to justify its inclusion as a standard feature in Maple, especially given Maple's focus on numerical methods such as Runge-Kutta methods and fully implicit methods for rigid equations.

I’m wondering:

  1. Why isn’t this method included in Maple’s standard set of numerical solvers?
  2. How can I implement this method in my own code in Maple to solve stiff ODEs?

Any guidance or examples of implementation would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

The usual ODE must be solved:
y´´*(y^3-y)+y´^2 *(y^2+1)=0
"Dangerous places" of the definition domain must be described: Where are the general solution y(x) and its derivatives continuous?

On my journey of discovery in the Maple world, which is new to me, I have now looked at the linear algebra packages. I am less interested in numerics than in symbolic calculations using matrices. I would like to illustrate this with the following task:

Let A be any regular (n; n) matrix over the real numbers for natural n. The regular (n; n) matrix X that solves the equation

X - A^(-1)*X*A = 0 for each A is to be determined. In this, A^(-1) is the inverse of A. Is there perhaps a symbolic solution for a specifically chosen n?

The solution to this old exercise is known. X is every real multiple of the unit/identity matrix, i.e. the main diagonal is occupied by a constant and all other matrix elements are zero.

I thought I had post with collection showing timelimit still hangs in Maple. But can't find it searching. I wanted to add this to it.

If someone finds such post, please let me know and I will append this to that post and delete this.

I just found another example where int() hangs all of Maple, using timelimit. I put timelimit of 30 seconds. After 2 hrs it is still running.

Maple 2024.1 on windows 10. This shows clearly that timelimit in Maple still does not work when It was supposed to have been fixed in Maple 2021?

For me, if there is anything that will make me stop using Maple for good, it is this timelimit issue.

Because with timelimit not working all the time, my program keeps hanging. It is not possible to do antything then. Having to keep checking if the program is still running or have hanged and restarting it is not a way to develop software.

Software that have been in development for almost 45 years now like Maple, should have figured by now how to implement timelimit that works.

Note that, with smaller timelimit it is possible it will  not hang, because longer time limit makes it end in the code path which causes the hang. When I tried 5 seconds for example instead of 30 second, it did not hang With 30 it does. so if you try it and it does not hang, please increase the timelimit a little and it will surely hang. Just make sure to do restart each time, since Maple remembers last result.

maple's server.exe was running at full cpu also.

Update OCT 10, 2024

This is another example showing hang in Maple 2024.1 using timelimit. So adding it to this collection. I had large collection of such problems but not able to find it now.

I was trying to verify this solution (which could very well be wrong) on ode with IC. timelimit hangs when I added assumptions as shown. Used 10,20,30 seconds, and so on. all hang. Waited and waited.

Does it hang on other systems? I am using Windows 10 and Maple 2024.1 with 128 GB RAM on fast CPU.

I would like to officially offer $1,000 prize for any one who can solve the timelimit hanging problem in Maple. Will send you personal check of this amount if you find why it hangs and provide fix to use that I can verify works.

Bernoulli first order ode has form as show in wikipedia  and also on Maple own site as

Notice that it is P(x)*y above and not P(x)* y^(-1) so the y(x) must be linear in that term.   But when I give Maple this ode

ode:=diff(y(x),x) + x*y(x)^(-1)= y(x)^(-1);

Which is clearly not of the form above, it solves it as Bernoulli.  In the above ode, P(x) is x and Q(x) is 1 and n is -1.

The ode advisor correctly said it is separable. But trace shows it used Bernoulli. Also when asking it to solve it as Bernoulli, it does.

What Am I missing here?  Is it not wrong for Maple to use Bernoulli method on this ode which is not Bernoulli?

As a newbie in Maple2024, my next step is to try to solve a Diophantine equation. Attempts with isolve failed. It is the famous task B3 from the IMO of 1988:

If for integers x and y the fraction (x^2+y^2)/(1+x*y) is a positive integer, then it is actually a square number.

The solution is well known. But I would like to learn how to use Maple using this example and would like some advice.

Best regards, Alfred_F

Dear Power Users, Dataframes are a powerful tool within Maple. However, when I have 'undefined' in cells "Aggregate" or "DataSummary" does not provide answers. However, when I use "Statistics:-Mean" with the additional option "ignore=true" I can get an answer for one column (see attached worksheet). Adding "ignore" to aggregate apparently does not work. What is the method for ignoring the undefined data? In Excel when a cell is blank it will be ignored. Thank you for any help given.MP_Aggregate.mw

Maple help pages keep getting worst with each release.

I want all input to be displayed using Maple 1D notation, so I can copy the example to my worksheet since I only use worksheet and not document (2D) mode.

So even though the first thing I do when I open help it to turn off the

                     view->Display examples with 2D

So it is no longer checked, I still see many pages using 2D math for input.

Here is one example ?D  page

If I copy one such input to my worksheet now it looks like this

eveything in 2D becomes ?? when I copy it.

So one can only look but not copy?

Is there any other option to make sure, really make sure, all examples have 1D as input?

The problem is that it is all not consistent. Some examples have a mix of 2D and 1D as the above page. Some are in 2D and some are in 1D.

And this is all on the same help page!

Does no one inside Maplesoft even look at their own help pages?

I am trying to understand under which conditions submenus disappear.

Now I have seen that the context panel is empty when submenues disappear.

Has anybody noticed the same and are there other instances when the context panel is emtpy?

Both effects could have the same rootcause.

Here is an example:
A -> no submenu

B -> Empty context panel

C -> Menu appears inside workspace (first time I see that)

Update

C seems to happen when the Maple window is not maximized to the full screen. -> then the context pannel becomes empty (for some reason) -> then if the Maple window is maximized to full screen we see C. Opeing new documents do not show this when toggling between and

Hi everyone,

I’m encountering an issue with Maple 2024 on my MacBook Air M1 (2020) running macOS Sonoma 14.6.1. Every time I try to log in to Maple Cloud from within the application, the entire program freezes and becomes unresponsive. I’ve tried restarting the application and my MacBook, but the problem persists.

Is anyone else experiencing similar issues with Maple 2024 on an M1 Mac running macOS Sonoma? If so, have you found any solutions or workarounds? I’ve checked for updates and even reinstalled the software, but the problem still exists.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

This problem began about 3 nights ago.

When I load the subpackage UHG to RationalTrigonometry no warning.

When I rerun the worksheet warnings appear. If I put in arestart and reload the packages no warning. The problem only occurs with the sub packageUHG. The RationalTrigonometry package also has a few aliases.

Screen shot of one rerun  then added restart.

EDIT: Thanks for the help i used the restore backup feature. I made my anti virus not react to maple since i thought that might work, so far no more problems. Else this is a fix if anybody else has this problem.

Hi, so my maple freezes during simple tasks, such as trying to type something, or somtimes copying and inerting the results from a previous equation, the feature where you mark something and drag the answer to somewhere else also does this. When this happens, maple completely freezes and i'm forced to close the app with taksmanager, where i lose everything i have worked on, sometimes for the past hour because i didn't save every minute which is basically not something you can do.

Is there any fix for this or anything i can do to prevent this, cause it really sucks.

I'm on a windows 11 with maple 2024

Hello

In my last question, I asked for help converting an old Maple V3 code to the latest version. With the help of  @Rouben Rostamian, I managed to get most of the procedures working again. Unfortunately, there is one procedure that I cannot figure out how to convert. Below is the procedure, along with an example that works and one that does not.

saturbasis := proc(ps,js,ord)
 local qs,gb,zz,j,aux;
     print("ps = ",ps):
     print("js = ",js):
	 print("ord = ",ord):
     if js <> {} then
         qs := [op(ps),'`@z`.j*js[j]-1' $ ('j' = 1 .. nops(js))];print("qs = ",%):
         zz := ['`@z`.(nops(js)-j+1)' $ ('j' = 1 .. nops(js))];print("zz = ",%):
         aux:= [op(zz),'ord[nops(ord)-j+1]' $ ('j' = 1 .. nops(ord))]:print("aux = ",aux):
         gb := grobner['gbasis'](qs,aux,'plex');
         qs := [];
         for j to nops(gb) do
             if {op(zz)} minus indets(gb[j]) = {op(zz)} then
                 qs := [gb[j],op(qs)]
             fi
         od
     else qs := ps
     fi;
     qs
end proc:

First example:

ps:=[2*x1^2 + 3*x2^2 + 4*x1 + x2, x1*x3 - 3*x2 - 1, 2*x1*x4 + 3*x2 + 1]:
js:={x1}:
ord:=[x1, x2, x3, x4]:

saturbasis(ps,js,ord);
             [    2       2

What did the author use @ for creating the variables?  And how to fix the error?
