I have just installed a copy of Maple 11 and it seems to be working now.  I only have it on a limited licence for 200 days but it will be enough to get on with my work.

I will check out Dependency Walker when I have more time to see if there is anything that 9.5 is asking for but cannot get.  It looks like a good utility, I have an OEM version of the home edition of XP so I hadn't seen it in the system tools.  It is still interesting that you can run 9.52 with 2Gb and I'd like to get to the bottom of the problem with 9.5/9.52 as things like this really eat at me.

In the meantime thanks for all the suggestions.

Hi jakubi

That's interesting but I don't know whether that is a good or bad thing from my point of view i.e. is there something else wrong with my machine.  It has been suggested that having the latest version of java might be an issue but I always thought that maple used its own version which would count that out.

I am rapidly running out of options but have just got a copy of Maple 11 from the university and will try installing it later.

Does anyone know whether there is a RAM issue with version 11?

Is there anyone using it with 2Gb or more of RAM in their machine?

I may have the option to get a cut down version from my university.

cheers

Yes, and thanks for the link.

I did see that and installed the upgrade and I have a log file which says that the installation was successful but unfortunately the problem remains.  I am totally stuck.
