About my matrices I know the following:

Matrix M is diagonal with all diagonal elements>0.
Matrix K is a band matrix, all elements are real.
 
With “smallest” I mean the eigenvalues with the lowest values (NOT lowest absolute values). (The eigenvalues are real.)
 
When I have the information about the eigenvalues and eigenvectors I am finished. The eigenvalues and eigenvectors are the final result of the whole calculation.
