This blog will contain postings documenting some of my mathematical travels. In particular it will chronicle my experiences and problems in learning maple and the mathematics I am studying along the way. I'm an undergraduate studying mathematics and statistics in my final year. This year I have a standalone course in maple plus courses in applied partial differential equations. nonlinear dynamics, calculus of variations, applied probability, and stochastic processes. Only the nonlinear dynamics course specifically uses maple, but I hope to put maple to as much use as possible throughout. My only previous experience with CAS is mathcad for the last 2 years, and until recently I was a complete maple novice. Now I'd say I'm "almost a novice". I am interested in pursuing a career in teaching (secondary level) mathematics eventually. I am possibly interested in studying at masters level in between. To get me started in maple I have been working through the worksheets by Roger Kraft here http://ems.calumet.purdue.edu/mcss/kraftrl/mfmm/ and by Peter Stone here: http://www.peterstone.name/Maplepgs/maple_index.html And I've just started looking at some resources on maplesoft in the Application Centre, though it's a bit hard to know where to start !!
