@acer You are absolutely right -- one of my (failed) attempts to fix the problem was to put a copy of that library into the Maple bin directory.  The error message I gave was the result.  The **original** message reads:

INTEL MKL ERROR: /home/jet08013/maple2022/bin.X86_64_LINUX/libmkl_gf_lp64.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
Intel MKL FATAL ERROR: Cannot load libmkl_gf_lp64.so.
maple: fatal error, lost connection to kernel

I have a lot of software tools installed on this machine via anaconda, as well as pytorch, the numba library, ... And I do have R installed as well, though I don't use it much.  I will wait and see what breaks, and then I'll know where this came from.

I reinstalled, but that didn't fix the problem.  However, based on your remark regarding MKL and anaconda, I looked in my environment and I had the following set:

MKL_INTERFACE_LAYER=LP64,GNU

I unset this environment variable and that seems to make the problem go away.

I have no idea what gets broken as a result, but at least I am back in business.
