Maple Application Center

MaplePrimes Activity

These are replies submitted by Bryon

I'm happy to report that we have published a set of updates that address many of the recent comments and suggestions that we have received for the new Application Center. Here is what we have added/changed:

  • Many of you did not like the blue overlay that appeared over the application preview image when you hovered your mouse over it. This overlay no longer appears, making all the information about the application (the image, description and author) easier to click. The information in the overlay (tags and collections) now appears in a pop up box below the image.

  • We have added the option to browse by product. You can do this in three ways:
    • Click the 'Product' button at the top of the home page
    • Search for a version (e.g., Maple 2020) directly in the application search
    • The product version displayed for each application is a link that, when clicked, will show you all of the applications for that version

  • The language that the application has been written (English, Spanish, French, etc.) is now clickable, and will show a list of all apps for that language.

  • A number of small bug fixes and updates.

We are working on a handful of additional updates while the Application Center remains in beta, and we are planning on launching it to the public very soon.

As always, I'm looking forward to your comments and suggestions.

Hi all - thanks again for your feedback and suggestions. I have also received ideas from other channels, and we are working on getting them implemented.

To answer a few specific questions/suggestions:

  • We will re-implment the product/versions for each application. It was our original hope that we could remove versioning altogether to simplify the site, but we now agree that it is required.

  • We will also be implementing a filter so that people can find all documents for a specific version of Maple. It's unclear whether this will be avaialble as soon as the new Application Center launches, but if not, it will happen shortly thereafter.

  • In terms of scheduling, we are hoping to have an update for the Beta within a week or two, and then anticipate that we will launch the site publically a week or two after that. Once that occurs, the old site will be no longer available.

I will post a message here when the next version of the update has been published. In the meantime, keep the comments coming!

@David Mazziotti Thank you so much for your comments and suggestions!

We have already starting making some interface changes based on your first point, and we have added a 'browse by product' feature to our longer-term roadmap.

As to your third point, would you be able to show us an example of an app that is in the current App Center, but not in the new one? We tried to ensure that all content was ported over, but it's possible that some items were missed.

Thanks again!

Bryon

@nm to echo the comment from @acer, we hope you continue to contribute to MaplePrimes! As your high reputation score demonstrates, your contributions are greatly appreciated.

Reputation is important for many MaplePrimes members, and we have made a change today to help us better track why it changes. I discuss that change, and reputation in general, here.

@Christopher2222 As Christopher noticed, the question and (now) answers have been reinstated.

As it says on our about page, MaplePrimes is "a Web community dedicated to sharing experiences, techniques, and opinions about Maple, MapleSim and related products, as well as general interest topics in math and computing."

By the very nature of our community, topics tend to revolve around Maple, but that does not mean that other areas of discourse aren't welcomed.

As @mmcdara mentioned above, we all have the choice to not respond if a topic doesn't suit your fancy. Belittling or demeaning a fellow member or their content adds nothing of value, and simply creates a toxic environment.

The spam button appears for moderators on posts where the poster's reputation is less than 10. When this is clicked, the message is removed immediately and the user is banned from MaplePrimes. This is a powerful feature, so it is limited only to users with a reputation of 10 or lower - we would never want a user with a higher reputation to be accidentally removed.

If a user with a reputation >10 posts spam, they will need to be reported and dealt with manually.

@MrMarc

Thanks for your questions, and my apologies for the confusion. The pricing that you see for Maple Personal Edition is indeed correct. However, you will need to contact our customer service team to qualify for this price, and they will provide you with a code that you can use to purchase online.

The best way to contact us is via the Contact Sales form on the Maplesoft web site. If you would prefer to speak with someone in person, that's great as well and you can find the best number to call on our Contact page.

@Christopher2222 Thanks for bringing this to our attention! The question has been restored.

Thanks for pointing this out. We have corrected the issue, and you will notice that link to your homepage now works as it should.

Thank you for alerting us to this problem. All of your content has been restored.

At this point, we are not sure what caused this to occur and we are looking into it. I can also verify that this did not happen to any other account.

Please let us know if you enounter any additional issues.

@Christopher2222 Thanks again for letting us know about the issue. We have published some additional changes to the editor which we think have taken care of the problem.

Would you mind confirming how things are working for you now? Thanks!

Thanks for the details. Could you also let us know what browser & OS you are using?

@Christopher2222 - we made a small change to the editor earlier this week, which we reverted after hearing of your problem. Could you let me know if this corrected the issue that you were seeing?

If it doesn't, any additional details that you could provide would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!
