@Preben Alsholm

I want to approximate the area of a canal, which is created in the human body, and an image of it is taken with an imaging device. The canal has no defined geometric shape (not a circle, or elipse, or else). The image is 2D.

My idea was to take this shape, and suround it by a rectangle, with a known size. Then I want to take n random points inside the rectangle. Knowing the area of the rectangle and the proportion of points that fell inside the shape, I expect to know the area of the shape - in other words: monte carlo simulation.

For conveniency, the shape is black, the rectangle will be white, so this is a basic image proccesing problem. However, I do not know where to start creating such a simulation. I thought maybe Maple 17 will be an approprote tool, but I wouldn't know how to do it. I wanted to ask if it's simple, and if you can guide me through it ?

As a first step, I thought trying it with a circle inside the rectangle, since I know the area of the circle and can test my algorithm.

Thanks !
