thanks alot, based on your advice, i've managed to test correctly for 2 out of the 3 cases i have cited. it appears that the most difficult one that i have failed to test properly happens to be the easiest one: how do i compare so that 3^3=27 evaluates as true, and 3^3=3^3 evaluates as false? i have a feeling this is impossible as maple seems to evaluate 3^3 immediately. essentially, i just want to make sure only fully simplified answers are accepted, not things like 3*3*3 or 81/3.
