It would appear that someone needs treatment here. And I mean of the professional kind, on top of the silent one!

thank pagan. Your workaround works

Oops, my bad. Yes it does work but not if you enter the matrix using the matrix tool from the palette, which is the way I have it in all of my existing ws. The error message is

Error, invalid _Inert_PARAM inside rtable data
If you click on it it says no info available. Haven't been able to help from TS either
thanks again

@Markiyan Hirnyk

Sorry, still don't get it. If I search for the string in quotes I am getting zero(0) hits. If I leave it out I am getting abunch none germain to my question.

Now I have not used Physics before so based on the last post does it mean it works for analytic functions only.

And lastly suppose you went to the exercise and found the the anlytic function f(z)=Complex(u(x,y),v(x,y)).

How do you go about expressing it in terms of z and not x and y?

which begs the question of how to best search Mapleprimes. I made several attampts before posting, using quotes and no quotes. I either got no hit or thousands of hits

thanks again

thanks a lot for the reply. Based on your explanation, I then conclude that assign is also the tool to achieve the reverse of SubMatrix/SubVector, namely assign a given matrix to a certain portion of a new matrix. I further assume that assign is preferable to using a do loop.

Yes, kind of. Except for the fact that the columns are also subjected to bending and thus to non-constant stress,

Sorry for the missing details. The above image shows what I would like to do. I have a given geometry (in this case two vertical lines connected by a horizontal line. And I have three functions f1=f(x1), f2=f(x2) and f3=f(x3) where x1..x3 are coordinates measured along the three lines. How do I generate a 2D plot (actually 3 2D plots) similar to the one shown Forget the contours, a simple plot will do. Looking at it from a different angle, is it possible in a 2d plot that the x axis is not horizontal but has an orientation defined by me? If I knew how to that my problem is solved.

Thanks a bunch for all the suggestions which have been very helpfull.

thanks to both of you. You helped a lot. Now it appears I tried to sneak a second question by you and you did not go for it. How do I go about doing the plot I described in my original posting? Those of you with training in Engineering Mechanics would recognize that I am trying to plot a moment/shear force over the 2D geometry of a simple frame. thanks again
