  • It wasn’t that long ago that people were thinking that personal rocket jetpacks would be a reasonable means of transportation.  Unfortunately, we’re still a bit of a ways off on that dream.  That being said, we can still do a lot of cool things with rockets.

    Rockets find their origins in ancient China.  The availability of black powder to propel projectiles was a precursor to the development of the first solid rocket.  The discovery of black powder by Ninth Century Chinese alchemists led to experiments in the form of weapons such as rocket-propelled fire arrows.

    If I enter an equation label (crtl-space-L) twice in a row with an operator and without any spaces, Maple shoves the second label in before the operator.

    So if I want this (1)+(2) what I actually get is this (1)(2)+ looks like it's doing some commutative quantum wierdness haha sorry I just had to put that in there.

    The following computation crashes Maple 11 (maplew):

    > sqrt(5);
    sqrt(5);                (1)

    > (1) / ((1) + 1);

    where (1) is a label.

    I've found a small bug, it's more of an aesthetics issue.

    A:=P*(1+r/100)^n;

    P:=100;

    r:=5;

    evalf(A);

    100. 1.050000000

    No brackets around the 1.05.  Happens in classic version as well.

    I am currently using Maple to deconvolute gamma ray spectra, using Howards method of finite extent and non-negativity. Although this method does work well, I would like to try deconvoluting these spectra using the method of maximum entropy., Unfortunately however, I am having considerable difficulty in finding the necessary information, that would enable me to develope a worksheet to perform this task. As a result of this, I would to hear from anyone who has any experience of this method of deconvolution.

    Maplesoft launched a new application center on its website on April 2, 2009. One objective of the update was to make it easier for visitors to find great content for both Maple and MapleSim. We wanted to make sure that all pages list the best applications first. While on many pages, including the home page, the MapleSim content page and the Tips & Techniques page, our editors can control the order of the applications, with almost 2000 applications, editors cannot rank all of the applications manually.

    So I'm a bit behind on announcing this...but better late than never.  The recipient of the Maple Mentor Award for the first quarter is gulliet.

    I apologize for my tardiness, but I will announce the next recipient on time next quarter.

    Congratulations!

    I miss some familiar features from the classicalö worksheet in the standard worksheet, especially things like "find/replace" in 2D-math expressions, undo for mathematical operations.

    Maple 12 fails to factor this polynomial factor(x^8-8*x^7-20*x^6+232*x^5+126*x^4-2200*x^3-836*x^2+6776*x+4403); Because I knew the zeros +/-sqrt(2)+/-sqrt(3)+/-sqrt(6) I could factor it myself. One factor is x^4-22*x^2-48*x-23 Just what are the limitations of factor? I saw no hint on the help pages? At what degree does it start to fail? Surely it can handle degree 3 always--but I guess not 8. So where does it start to give up without warning (as above). Is there a built in test for irredicibility (since factor can not be used as one)?

    It will be very convenient if the worksheet automatic jump to the position that the cursor is in the middle of the screen if you reach the bottom. It is very unconvenient now. If I execute some existing worksheet step by step and I reach the bottom I can only see the half of the input, or if there is a loop I only see the first line.

    Sometimes I only want to see the plot with varying axes formation, for example with logarithmic scale. But I don't want to change the style really. So it will be nice if the style goes back to the old style if I click on "Cancel":

    Click on the plot to "plot-axes-properties",
    change something,
    click: "Apply",
    click: "Cancel"

    => everything is like before the changing

    The startup code and the code edit regions are very nice things. Perhaps it is possible to enable import and export to and from it from and to files. And it will be nice if one can mark up some reagon in a worksheet and the choose something like "convert to code edit region" from the context menu.

    Further "Find" and "Replace" in startup code and code edit regions will be very helpful.

    Last not least: Perhaps it is possible to convert the startup code and the code edit region in 2D-math formation?

    Please would someone point me to a list-by-date option in mapleprimes' advanced search.

    I wanted to find out if there were messages about "maple tags", found a thread dating back to february 2008 in which a series of problems which I am experiencing were described, so naturally I wanted to know if more recent posts had addressed similar issues, with possible solutions or hints. But I couldn't find an option to list messages by date, say by "most recent" (as in google groups).

    The Canadian Press reported last week the fortune of 13 women working on the 13th floor of an Edmonton bank tower winning a $50-million lottery jackpot. Combine this with the recently released version 13 of Maple and one might claim that notorious number 13's luck is changing.

    Early in the development of Maple 13 the question of whether to use "13" was raised. From Apollo 13 to hotels with a missing floor, superstition surrounds this number.  Microsoft Office 2010 is slated to be released as version 14.0; the previous version was 12.0. Corel's WordPerfect Office marketed their version 13 as "X3" -- combining a roman numeral and decimal digit.

    Cool trick I never knew.  Pressing CRTL + (any number) changes the font size of the whole worksheet.  Very cool.

    Couple of annoying things maple does.  When declaring variables, for example K:=45; D:=400; A:=23; Maple returns 45, 400 and 23.  Why doesn't maple show what numbers are assigned to what variables?

    Also x:=t->5*t^2-5*t  only returns t->5*t^2-5*t   when what it should show is x(t)=5*t^2-5*t  Maple again doesn't show the variable.
